Auditions
Theatre Audition Process
Only students who have submitted a complete application and have met the minimum academic requirements will be granted an audition for admission to the ChiArts Theatre Department. Please visit the application pages for more information.
Students of all abilities and levels of experience may audition for admission into the theatre program. ChiArts recognizes the need to provide opportunities for students who have had prior theatrical instruction and students who have not had prior training, but demonstrate strong natural ability and a desire to learn.
In order to place the students in the appropriate audition area, applicants must complete the arts experience section on the admission application that describes any prior artistic training or experience. It is important for students to be thorough and accurate when submitting this information. Students will choose either acting or musical theatre. (They may audition for acting and musical theatre, but must select one area of study if admitted to both).
Required audition preparation: Acting
-
- Prepare an age-appropriate dramatic or comedic monologue that is memorized and is no more than 90 seconds long. Monologues may be from a play or screenplay, a story, or a piece written by the student. Bring one copy for the adjudicators. Costumes and props are not allowed.
- Ensemble theatre exercises (30-60 minutes in length) will be conducted by an instructor; students will participate as members of an ensemble. Students should wear clothing and shoes that allow them to move freely.
