The Dance Department went to Ravinia to see Bill T. Jones/ Arnie Zane Dance Company, “Fondly Do We Hope…Fervently Do We Pray.” 26 students and parents attended. This gift was provided to the Dance Department by Ravinia Festival, a ChiArts Arts Partner.

The Dance Department went to the Harris Theater to observe Mikhail Baryshnikov and Ana Laguna’s, “Three Solos and Duet” technical rehearsal. 33 students and three staff members attended. This gift was provided to the Dance Department by the Harris Theatre, a ChiArts Arts Partner.

The Dance Department participated in the Joffrey’s Community Engagement Promotion for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. They performed a “Diski” Dance Half Time Performance at Toyota Stadium. 30 students participated.

All music students participated in a field trip to VanderCook College of Music. They heard a concert given by violinist and composer Luca Ciarla. This gift was provided to the Music Department by VanderCook College of Music, a ChiArts Arts Partner.

Many ChiArts students attended the National Association for College Admission Counseling’s (NACAC) Chicago Performing and Visual Arts College Fair held at Roosevelt University. Roosevelt invited ChiArts to this event.

The Dance and Musical Theatre students went to the Auditorium Theater to see Joffrey Ballet’s, “Othello.” 50 students and staff attended. This gift was provided to the Dance and Theatre Department by Pam Strobel.

Guest artist Robert Ferreyra, presented a Day of the Dead workshop and “papel picado" activity to the Visual Arts Department.

Cellist Anna Steinhoff and Violinist Daniel Golleher from Baroque Band, Chicago's period-instrument orchestra, came to perform for the string and woodwind repertoire students. The students were treated to performance on both the Baroque violin and cello and also had a chance to try the instruments to experience how they feel differently from their modern counterparts.

Visual Arts students visited the National Mexican Museum of Fine Arts followed by a visit to Robert Ferreyra's studio, Colibri Studio/Gallery and a short tour of Pilsen’s street murals.

Seven Visual Arts students represented ChiArts in a teen forum at the Museum of Contemporary Art (Miguel Mercado, Miguel Ontiveros, Savannah Quintanar, Brittany Roque, Gillian Griffin, Victoria de Leon, Ebonee Wilkins). This opportunity was provided to the Visual Arts Department by MCA, a ChiArts Arts Partner.

Julie O’Connell, Physical Therapist at the East Bank Club will be the guest speaker for the Dance Department. She will discuss injury prevention, rehabilitation for injuries, and how to maintain a healthy body.

ChiArts percussion students Joel Ross and Joshua Ross were selected by competitive audition to perform in the District 1 IMEA (Illinois Music Educator’s Association) Jazz Ensemble at West Leyden HS.

Dr Charles Carter, Dance Educator, Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education from Northern Illinois University, will give a West African dance class to the Dance Department.

VA students will be taking a fieldtrip to the Art Institute to visit the sculpture and drawing galleries directly reflecting the curriculums in those courses.

Tim He (clarinet) and Yesenia Gonzalez (violin) were selected by competitive audition to perform in the District 1 IMEA (Illinois Music Educator’s Association) Concert Band and Orchestra, respectively.
Upcoming Events

ChiArts will present its first performance with a Fall Showcase. This will be class demonstrations in each of the arts conservatories. The performance will be limited to two tickets per student. This will not be publicized due to the space limitations in the auditorium. Board members and staff are invited to attend.
December 2009/January 2010
Visual Arts students will take a fieldtrip to visit SAIC Books Collection at Flaxman Library and the Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College.

ChiArts will host a Teen Comedy Festival, which is part of TeenFest, a program of the Chicago Improv Festival. This all day festival will attract 60-100 teens from across the state and region.
Other performances and events will be added to this page on an on-going basis.
