Tardy Policy

Tardy Policy

Effective Monday, November 30, 2009

It is the student's responsibility to come to school prepared and on time. Therefore, in an effort to continue to establish a scholarly environment, the following tardy policy has been implemented as of Monday, November 30, 2009.

Tardy to School

If your child has a legitimate excuse (ill, car trouble, family matters, etc.) for being tardy to school, please call the main office at (773) 534-9710 to excuse the child's tardy. Notes from parents will not be accepted. Students will be allowed 4 excused tardies per semester. Once the student arrives to school, he/she must report to the main office to receive an excused tardy pass to class. If the student has already had 4 excused tardies, then he/she will receive an unexcused tardy pass to class.

Tardy to School and Class Consequences

• After 3 unexcused tardies to the same class, the student will be required to serve a lunch detention. Ms. Birenberg, the instructional coach, will call or email parents when a lunch detention is assigned to a student.

• After 6 unexcused tardies to the same class, the student will be required to serve a Friday detention from 5:00-6:00pm. Ms. Birenberg, the instructional coach, will call parents when a Friday detention is assigned to a student.

After 9 unexcused tardies to the same class, a mandatory parent conference will take place and the student will be assigned one day of in-school suspension.
