Join us for a lively evening of music from the ChiArts Wind and String Ensembles and Chorale. On Thursday, March 29 students will preview contest selections for the upcoming CPS Large Ensemble Festivals and debut an exciting collaboration between the String Ensemble and Chorale. The Wind Ensemble will perform Prairie Songs, a delightful pair of Wisconsin folk song commissioned for the state's sesquicentennial celebration while the chorale takes inspiration from abroad with a trio of South African songs. The Spring Large Ensemble concert kicks off ChiArts' spring performance series; music lovers prepare for an evening of variety and fun!

Winter Music Showcase II
A truly exciting evening of performance, the Winter Music Showcase II picks up where the last installation left off. We are proud this time around to present Flute Technique, Clarinet Technique, Saxophone Technique, Guitar Ensemble I, Guitar Ensemble II, Upper Brass Technique, Low Brass Technique, a Low Strings Duo, Snare Technique II and a Freshman Snare Duo.

AUDITION WORKSHOPS:
ChiArts Backstage Pass (formerly Audition Workshops) are open to any 8th-grade student who wishes to learn more about the audition process. Each session will give families a better understanding of the academic & artistic culture unique to ChiArts. While participation is recommended, students are not required to attend a workshop in order to audition or apply for admission to ChiArts.
Due to space restrictions, registration is required. All Backstage passes are FREE. There is no need to sign up for more than one time slot in a single arts area (Musical theatre students are to attend one of the Theatre sessions). Students are allowed to register for more than one arts area/conservatory. To register online simply fill out the form below, or send the requested information by email: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or phone: 773-534-9710. A confirmation email will be sent once your request is received. Submit your information at least 7 days before the workshop date of your choice.

Conversation about Citizen Musicianship with Yo-Yo Ma
Led by Judson & Joyce Green Creative Consultant Yo-Yo Ma, a panel of young musicians will share transformational musical experiences through the lens of community engagement. Intended to inspire further interest from high school and college musicians, this discussion and dialogue will help to define "citizen musicianship" for youth and will motivate attendees to consider their stake in music making at home, in Chicagoland and beyond.
The event is free and open to the public, and there is limited seating available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Master class with Nicole Cabell
Nicole Cabell, the 2005 Winner of the BBC Singer of the World Competition in Cardiff and Decca recording artist, is fast becoming one of the most sought-after lyric sopranos of today. Her solo debut album, “Soprano” was named “Editor’s Choice” by Gramophone and has received an incredible amount of critical acclaim and several prestigious awards: the 2007 Georg Solti Orphée d’Or from the French Académie du Disque Lyrique and an Echo Klassik Award in Germany. UIC High School Jazz Festival
The ChiArts Jazz Combos will be participating in the 2011 High School Jazz Festival at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). Featuring live jazz combos and big bands from area high schools, the festival will also host performances and clinics by the UIC Jazz Faculty, as well as a special improvisation workshop with Jamey Aebersold.
