Winter Dance Concert
The Chicago High School for the Arts presents its annual Winter Dance Concert on Friday, February 17, 2012 at 7:00pm. The dance conservatory will debut its first full length ballet, Carnival of the Animals, composed by Camille Saint-Saëns with original choreography by dance department head, Reginald Harris. Carnival of the Animals is a playful re-imagining of the classic children's ballet, with a Chicago flare, told through the colorful characters of the animal kingdom. Costumes were conceived by visual artists Aaliyah Simms and Madeleine Finn.
The second half of the program will include a diverse sampling of ballet and contemporary works that are high-spirited and wonderfully engaging. A moving new piece, Ave Maria, will premiere and is the result of an exciting collaboration between the dance and music departments. Ave Maria will feature vocalist Samuel Augustin accompanied by music instructor Daniel Kenworthy.
Tickets are free, but seating is limited. Reserve your spot here!
