School Profile

The Chicago High School for the Arts is a college-preparatory, pre-professional arts training program. ChiArts offers the following art disciplines: dance, music, theatre, and the visual arts. ChiArts is a Renaissance 2010 Contract School.

ChiArts seeks to offer challenging courses in all subject areas that encourage intellectual curiosity and develop critical thinking skills. Students will be expected to participate in a rigorous program, including five hours of academic classes, three hours of arts training in their major area, and one to four hours of rehearsal/practice per day. The school day begins at 8:00 a.m. and concludes at 5:00 p.m.

ChiArts is a citywide school that will enroll 150 9th-grade students in 2009. A new class will be added each year for a full enrollment of 600 students in 2012.
